休石   " YASUMIISI"

休石と書いて・・・「何だろう?」と思われる方も多いと思います。
信州の鹿教湯温泉から保福寺峠へと向かう途中で看板を見つけました。
読んでみればどうやら昔の街道の休み場であったような感じが受けられます。
平に削げる石を並べてさしづめベンチの様に造ったのでしょう、昔の人は道中、この石に座ってタバコでも吸っていたのでしょうか・・・
それともお結びでも食べて腹ごしらえをし、峠越えに備えたのではないでしょうか、思いは尽きません。
そういえば能登半島の輪島に石休場という地名がありますが、これもまた同じような意味なのか、今度訪れた際には確かめてみたいと思います。

It is written as "YASUMIISI"... I think that there is also much
direction considered to be "? which will be what." As Shinshu
went to "HOFUJUZI_TOUGE" from Kakeyu Hot Spring, it found the
signboard. If it reads, touch which was the rest place of an
old highway somehow can receive. The trip which would put in
order the stone reduced in common and would be built like the
bench for the present, it works off a meal by having sat on
this stone, and tobacco's having also sucked up, or eating also
by conclusion, and a thought is not exhausted in preparation for
"TOUDEGOE". When it visits recently whether this is also the same
meaning, I want to confirm, although the name of a place called
stone absence is in Wajima in Noto-Hanto if it says so.
